Not entirely. The GTX260M was a good GPU in its day and even with modern games it should kick ass. The Core 2 Duo's not that bad either. What power profile are you using in Windows 7, and what settings are you running your games at?

It may not be a bad GPU or CPU...
But system lab requirements (Can You Run It?) do not lie about your computer's ability to handle specific games...

Medium or low settings because this laptop always overheats and shuts down. I have one of those fan things to help cool it down but that doesn't work? Any other tips?

Edit: Should I download this? http://www.nvidia.com/object/noteboo...ql-driver.html

My brother has since installed an extra 4GB RAM for me and now it runs flawlessly. I can even play Magicka on it.
my laptop almost have the same spec as yours but i have an i5 CPU.
one of the things i hated was the fact that magika lagged so much, i have been considering upgrading my ram as well but did not think it would have a big effect on stuff like games.

Yeah, Magicka does not work as smooth as Torchlight does, but it is at least playable, at least for me. I took a stab in the dark and installed Borderlands 2 on it last night and was quite surprised to find out it is playable as well, framerate is between 20 and 30, but it doesn't bother me that much. I know what I'll be doing during my lunch breaks from now on.

Torchlight 2 runs nicely on my laptop as well, i have played a bit of MP on it as well.

Chivalry works great on it as well, don't know the frame rate but i had no issues.

I still want to try something like BF3 or one of those Origin bundle games on it.

The drivers won't help much if the game is CPU-limited, or the system is overheating, or the settings you're using are choking it. Have you ever taken it apart for a good clean and some new thermal paste?

The guy in the video does make the mistake of figuring out which chips are under which heatsink, but it gives you an idea of where to start.

If the laptop doesn't have two memory modules in dual-channel, do it already. Intel's chips are APUs, they rely on system memory for the GPU to get stuff done. It should give you a framerate boost in the 10fps region. It can mean the difference between a stuttering game and borderline playability. Also consider using a resolution like 1280 x 720 or lower.

    thanks Wesley,

i have 2 ram slots in my laptop and only 1 ram module. i will definitely upgrade it if it will give such a big increase.

currently i'm using lower res than 1280 x 720 when playing a game.
