She could base the story somewhere else (I've read that she stayed in America and Scotland for quite a while), but that's not going to help if they go back to Hogwarts :/

Hogwarts isn't the only wizarding school, though. Hogwarts merely serves Brittain and its surrounds. The US would likely have several of their own schools.
