I am still using windows vista and xp since I love these two versions, since I don't experience any problems and the only reason I would get 7 or 8 is if it is pre-installed on my laptop.

BSOD's would be driver or hardware problems if you ask me. Windows 8 is way more robust than 7 but only if you use proper drivers.

As for the differences, they changed alot of functions to be more like Windows 7 ie: Control pannl and so on. Oh and you can now click one a "Start button" to take you to Classic Modern UI or All apps Modern UI. There is also an option in Taskbar -> navigation to let your PC boot to Desktop instead of Modern UI.

Personally I still use Classic shell so basically "have" Windows 7 without the Aero theme

i have been using Windows 8 since launch on my gaming PC at home, and i have not had ANY problems. yes, the interface calls for touch, but 99% of the apps do not, so a mouse still works best. other than that quibble i feel it is more responsive, lighter on memory, and just a pleasure working with it. i laaik!

Had a laptop with Win 8 on it. It was just frustrating coming from using XP and Win 7 on the old laptop.

    I personally didn't like Win 8 - I don't think its as "user friendly" as Win 7

I had Windows 8.1, I must say that I enjoyed using it. I just wish Windows Aero was in 8.1

    - Win 95 was ok
    - Win 98 was crap
    - Win 98 SE was incredible (for the time)
    - Win ME was a disaster
    - Windows XP was beyond incredible
    - Vista was interesting to say the least
    - Win 7 is still great
    - Win 8 not so much
    - Win 8.1 from what I can see so far looks fantastic
    Windows 2000 was awesome OK!

Not a lot atm but I had major issues with 8.1(preview build) where it effected my games and .net drivers and my antivirus was not compatible with it.

Must say classic shell is really awesome just wish it looked prettier. Win 8 is fast that is for sure and have had no problems on my laptop with it.

I ran it for a while on my XPS, its nice in the sense that it brings you everything you looking for in Windows Tiles, news and weather etc, but I moved back to 7 only because it ate all my bandwidth, its either Windows 8 Tiles doing it or that virus that's going around strt.exe or something like that....

On my second laptop I'm running Windows 8 as its touch screen and its very nice for that

If you using metered connections it would be wise to set the OS to such else it will chew your BW.
