Default Capitec Global One Account Short Questions

    Hey guys,

I have a standard bank student acheiver account. This comes with a Debit MasterCard. However, this card does not work for online shopping. It doesnt have my name printed on it. I want to open the Capitec Global One Account which comes with a MasterCard it seems.

I am a student; So I would like to know does this card really work for online shopping? Their website says it does. How long does it take to apply for? How much is application fee, if there is any??

Also, for online purchases, would I have to pay an extra fee? On local sites and/or international sites?

    Thanks.

Can't you just get a mastercard linked to that account? I have done that. Your transactions are still limited to 5 per month I think, there after you pay R20 extra per transaction, which sucks, but it's better than nothing.

A mastercard, like someone who already owns a mastercard capable of online transactions? In that case, I can't

Just ask for a cheque card. Works online too & can def be linked to a student achiever.

That being said - the student achiever is kinda meh unless you really don't need to swipe at all.

True story. Can't buy too many bundles in one month or you'll pay transaction fees...

    Short Answer...
    YES

I have bought from, Amazon.co.uk/com/jp/fr Steam, Origin, GMG, GoG, Takealot, Kalahari, iTunes and about 100+ other online stores - they all see it as a credit card. Be warned though - With steam rather purchase funds for your wallet than a game for some reason MC bills the account up to 3 days after the purchase instead of immediately. I do not know why they just do.

Only fee you will pay is for exchange rates but it is so miniscule you won't even notice it.

My bank fee's average about R20 a month flat. Sometimes more (R40 if I draw cash at the ATM or make a lot of small purchases in USD, GBP and JPY)

You register at the bank it takes 30 mins max to register and account get your card and what not, they give you a printout of what to do, register your card, make a purchase of R100 or more for the first transaction, then you are good to go. I have bought games on steam for 99c and never had any problems.

    TL;DR
It's a debit card that works like a credit card. No funds - No purchase, no budget facilities. Just straight.

I know I may sound like a noob, but what is the difference between a cheque card and a debit card?

There is no high minimum income for it? It would be nice if this was the case. I checked the Blue Credit Card needs R3500 income per month

Ya it seems I will go for Capitec, I get charged R20 every month for my student achiever, I use more than 3 withdrawals a month.

You can use a cheque cards online like you would a credit card...except it goes straight off the account like a debit card. No minimum income, but they do a credit check (no idea why given that there is no credit involved).

NB if the transaction goes sideways then your in for a rough time. Chances of getting the cash back are slim. So I wouldn't process big amounts or use it with dubious online sites.

You can always use www.vcpay.co.za for online shopping.

You can EFT money into virtual cards that you can use. Cheaper than opening an account just for that feature.
