Default Not sure which speakers to get...

Hi guys i'm looking for some 2.1 speakers, so far the Logitech z623 has caught my eye however I just wanted a second opinion on the matter, their use will be for gaming and music and my budget is about R2500, also i want to know if 5.1 worth it

    Regards Death

I have a set of Logitech Z623 and they are amazing, 5.1 surround is only worth it if you can afford something like Logitech Z906 or Logitech Z5500. I might be selling my Z623's soon, Gonna be using studio monitors
If your keen drop me a pm and we can work something out.

I had 5.1 speakers but got rid of them for studio monitors. Personally, I'd stick with a 2.1 setup and if you want the surround effect, get headphones and use RazerSurround as a free, effectice alternative.

Not sure yet, looking to pick up a set from my brother for a good price.
Sound card wise my board comes with:

SupremeFX III built-in 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
    - Output Signal-to-Noise Ratio (A-Weighted): 110 dB
    - Output THD+N at 1kHz: 95 dB
    - Supports : Jack-detection, Multi-streaming, Front Panel Jack-retasking
    Audio Feature :
    - SupremeFX Shielding™ Technology
    - 1500 uF Audio Power Capacitor
    - Gold-plated jacks
    - X-Fi® Xtreme Fidelity™
    - EAX® Advanced™ HD 5.0
    - THX® TruStudio PRO™
    - Creative ALchemy
    - Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection
    - Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel

So will test them like that for awhile, will most likely end up getting a decent sound card.

You can get super legit 5.1 speakers for around R1500 @ HiFi corp (same ones I bought; Logitech Z506 ) honestly are truly amazing for the price I paid. have never looked back even once since.

The z623 are basically the upgrade of the old z2300 if I'm not mistaken. If they're anything as good as z2300 they'll be fantastic. I bought my z2300 set in 2005 and they're still just as good as the day I bought them.

I have a Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround Sound speaker system which I got through a friend for a good price. They're very good for what they're worth but seem a but much right now. Don't really use them for their 5.1 functionality anymore, wanna trade them for maybe a 2.1 instead or swap -- though, getting these again won't happen.

Long-story-short... They handle they're own quite respectively and reliably.

In terms of your sound card, I'd opt for an external card that has XLR connections as they are balanced. Balanced cables have three conductors - high, low, and ground. The Low signal is a phase reversed copy of the High signal. When it gets to the other piece of gear, the low is phase reversed again, and summed with the high signal, cancelling any noise picked up along the run of the cable and greatly improving the quality.

Maybe look at the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as your soundcard - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Scarlett2i2 - or the ASUS Xonar Essense STX - https://www.asus.com/Sound_Cards_and...r_Essence_STX/ - if you want an internal card.

    What's your price range here?

I actually had a ASUS Xonar Essense One that I sold not to long ago.
Should have held onto it and right now there is no price range

Money is tight so it'll have to wait, I can however live without my speakers as I have a seriously nice headset.

When I moved over to passive monitors (for studio use) I was sold with gaming. No over-the-top bass, no whiny treble. It's perfect. Running monitor headphones as well and loving it.

    What headset do you use?
