    lol @ social strife.

Locations get selected primarily by what looks cool & what the engine can handle. Thats partially why FC1 got such good reviews - nobody had manage dense jungle quite like it before & it instantly made cryengine a name brand.

Once you've got you're environment you just drop a standard FPS scenario onto it. e.g. You need an evil corporation. Maybe a rebellion. And say some weapons of mass destruction. Maybe a natural disaster if you've got a physics engine to show off.

And if your dev studio is utterly useless on the creative front then you can always fall back on good old Nazis.

    As for FC4 predictions:

Alaska & Antarctica are no good. Colour pallet is to narrow. Australia...maybe...I don't think they're going to try brown dust places again after the mediocre Africa thing.

Personally I'd do something slightly more Asia. It would have to be something nature-ish again though to really show off the engine & if you make it a fictional asian country you can mix & match between the cultures as needed. i.e. Nobody will notice if half the okes wear vietnamese hats but the architecture is japanese. Hell you can even throw in some Yakuza to keep reed happy with his social strife. hmm...maybe I should start a game studio. Seems like a better plan than:

Weirdly enough this is exactly what they did with 2, except in Africa.

A bit of Savannah, a bit of Congolese jungle, a bit of township, a bit of blood diamond, a bit of Hotel Rwanda and a Nile like river running through the whole place.

I don't buy the Yakuza thing but maybe it could be something similar to what was going on in Tropic Thunder, with drug, organ or human traffickers.

It was on an Island. Far Cry 1 wasn't made by the same company as 2 and 3.

And... how does he change his name?

I am hoping for a Island again, They should stick to that.

Possibly do a section of mainland and island setting, that would be ideal.

I always feel islands work best for these open world games. I'll rather have an uncross-able ocean to keep me in than some magical artificial barrier.

Yip I am also hoping for more marine life...Loved diving and swimming in FC3.
On a side note, for people that wanna give themselves a scare. Take a Jet-ski out at night and go diving in the dark.
Make sure your sound is turned up and the lights are off...Fcking scary lol

Totally agree with this, they don't have to be a tropical island every time. But think the island format for open world works well.

That would be great they should make it so that once you go to far in a BIG ASS SHARK / SEA CREATURE comes and eats you.... like in Jax and daxter

What if they had an infinite border, like a thick forrest that repeats itself so your going in circles constantly. With a dessert it could be like gta with its infinite ocean.

I do like the idea of a dessert setting though with a mining cluster in the middle of nowhere, abandoned mine shafts and huge towers.
