Default MadCatz puts Tegra 4-powered M.O.J.O Android game console on pre-order for $250

Android-powered consoles are a growing niche – the Ouya made a huge splash with its record-breaking Kickstarter campaign, but MadCatz is looking to dethrone it as the best Android console with its new M.O.J.O. console.

The M.O.J.O. runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and is powered by Tegra 4 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A15 @ 1.8GHz, 72-core GeForce GPU), has 2GB of RAM and comes with 16GB of built-in storage (expandable with microSD cards). On the connectivity side there’s Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.0 LE, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, wired Ethernet and HDMI out.

Best of all, the console will have access to both the Google Play Store and the Amazon App Store out of the box, so you don’t have to rely on a third-party app store like the Ouya does. The Ouya is also less powerful (it uses Tegra 3) but is far cheaper ($99). Anyway, MadCatz company has also partnered with NVIDIA, so you can expect Tegra Zone games too.

The company is a well-known maker of PC and gaming accessories and the M.O.J.O. works with many of them.

The console is on pre-order right now for $250 / €250 / £220 and for that price you get a C.T.R.L. controller in the box, which uses a Bluetooth 4.0 connection so you can hook it up to other gadgets too (PCs, Macs and tablets). The controller will be sold separately too, but the price is yet to be announced. You can also hook up MadCatz’s mice, keyboards and headphones to the console too.

Note that for $50 extra you can get NVIDIA’s Shield console, which has the same chipset, plus a touchscreen and is portable too.

whats the chances that any of these consoles make it mainstream ?

I don't know dude, at that price I'd rather get an XBox again (or any other current-gen console for that matter)

Looks cool but I also wouldn't go for that price I would go for the Xbox one instead.

I smell another Ouya coming along, some people never learn. With PS4/XB1/Steambox coming out with in the next few months why dip into a market that is so volatile?

Also, you'll probably be able to play GTA III on that but thats about all that google.play has to offer in the terms of proper '3D' gaming, everything else is mostly a platformer or designed for mobile phones.

there are a couple of decent mobile games and ports available now, but that price tag is a bit steep to play games I can already ply on my tablet

Should have been cheaper than buying a wifi tablet so under 2k to make it worthwhile otherwise people can just buy a tablet for the same experience like you say .

every time i see one of these consoles pop up my first thought is: does it run XBMC? then i see the price point and i write it off. my Pi will do just fine for now, but some of the skins just wont run on it.
