Report it the the police and get them to check the registration. It might be security for a vehicle loan in which cases you can be prosecuted for possession of stolen property.
Go to the police with any evidence you may have and explain the story to them and ask them to check ownership. Also ask then for transfer of ownership to your hands to defray holding/ storage costs and you might get to keep it. At worst they will impound the bike and its off your hands.

Haha epic fail on my part, apologiesWhat a great mechanism I must say

I honestly don't think that u would get to keep the bike. As a biker myself, I would say that the parents might just be so fed up with their kid almost loosing his life that its clouded their judgement regarding even getting the thing back or not. People are funny, and the way they justify things is just as funny. I would go to the police just to clear ur name, SAPS might not be able to help u, but the next step would be the traffic department. If u wana save urself a lot of trouble, either flag down a traffic officer, or if u personally know one, just ask them to come run the VIN of the bike, its allocated in 3 areas, both sides of the frame under the handle bars and one along side the gear changer (at the bottom of your left foot if u sat on the bike). They will immediately be able to help u by clearing up a few things, they will be able to say if the bike is/was reported as stolen, and also they would be able to tell u if its been scrapped due to insurance claim.
If it comes out as no insurance claim has been filled and its not stolen u are legally obligated to still hold on to it because u gave ur word to do so in the first place without giving a time line on it. Best is, try to call them and keep the bike stored away, and when they ever re appear charge them for the inconvenience, maybe try and find out how long something needs to be on ur property before u an claim possession of the thing.
If u have everything sorted, fix it (very simple with the damages u have mentioned) and sell it, or better yet, use it as a commuter, no one is born a biker, u become converted after getting on one and just learning to love what life is like on them! I never rode a bike and swore against them, 4 years later and here is the love of my life, (obv my wife isnt on this forum so I can say that)Attachment 7449

Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly!
did he died?
No, his parents picked him up and said they would come get the bike at a later stage after his father returns from work or something like that
