Thread: I have lost my will to CoD. Online FPS' has become meh. :-(

Now in relation to my link earlier, I am not a godlike FPS player, but I grew up playing the likes of Quake, Unreal, and later on CS. I haven't bought a CoD game at full price since Black Ops because they're basically just reskins, and the perks get more ridiculous with each game.

Also, as discussed in the link I posted, CoD doesn't really offer much of a challenge for anyone with moderate FPS skills. The only mode I actually enjoyed playing was FFA because everyone was out to get you, which resulted in some pretty tense combat. It's why I eventually switched to BF3, since that was more about tactics and teamwork than pure twitch skills.

Again, I'm not a godlike FPS players (I regularly got schooled by the really good players in Natal), but I'm definitely not bad. Here's a recording I have of an FFA match from BLOPS1 when I used to play semi-regularly at the time, to demonstrate my point.

In the end, one of the key factors is that CoD doesn't have a fairly high skillcap, so it's easy to get bored with it once you've levelled and gotten all the cool stuff.

Wow, that's a very good article and touches on so many true points.

How many of you here grew up playing games like Quake or Doom? I remember in my childhood me and my friends dedicated entire weekends to playing Quake 3. In those days, personal skill was everything. I could never get further up than halfway up the scoreboard because I simply wasn't that good. You had to know how to aim and anticipate your opponent's movements as well as have pretty good reflexes. Not so much in games like CoD. As long as you're aiming in the general direction of an enemy, you'll do okay. I remember playing MW2 for the first time and it just felt like I could literally hold down the LMB and still do well.

There's also a lot of truth where the guy says there's no fear in CoD. When playing CoD, how much of a penalty do you get when you die? A slightly less impressive k/d ratio? 5 seconds after being shot and you're back in the game. Other than your k/d, there's no penalty to dying in CoD. Even BF3 instils a little bit of fear of death in players, because getting shot in BF3 might mean you have to take 30 seconds or more to get back to the action. You don't really want to die in BF3 because there's actually a significant penalty to it.

All in all, I love the way this Red Orchestra dev thinks. The world definitely needs more Red Orchestras and less Call of Duties.

You got skills bro! Good clip.

Very true indeed. BF3 requires some real skill to play and I did get bored of BO2 because of the fact that I kept getting positive KD on most every match I played. There are some real beasts in the game though and it is great playing against them but I must say that I missed the team play aspect of the game. In normal lobbies, players are out to play solo even in team based matches where as in League play you have more of a team centric approach by players.

I do miss the team aspect though and I might be giving BF a try... maybe. :-)

Here is one of my gameplay clips form BO2. Got a few on my channel.

I agree. I played Quake 2, 3 and then the Unreal series and you really needed some serious skill to compete against the other guys. There was no such thing as auto-aim assist. You had to really "aim" to hit your target and if you did a stick shot, it really was a trick shot, not some quickscope assisted by generous amounts of auto-aim. :-)

I miss the golden age of FPS.
