Default 'Assassin's Creed 4' director: 'Ancient Egypt could be a really cool place'

One of the questions that gamers are left speculating after each installment of Assassin's Creed has come and gone is where will the series go next? Could it be going to Europe or South America? It's fun to talk about what could be, and gamers are not alone in that.

Consumers are definitely not the only ones who enjoy talking about where they would like to see the series go next, even Assassin's Creed 4 game director Ashraf Ismail talked about the location of where he would like the next Assassin's Creed to go.

"The President of the company has said that we will ship an annual title, so it's out there. We've been on this game for almost two years; it'll be two and a half when we ship. I would say one of the best things we have going for us is how we can play with history.

"History is something that is rooted in all of us; we all have a deeper connection to it. So there's a lot of interesting periods and time places we haven't been to that I would to see.

"I'm not saying we are going there, but one day I would love to explore Egypt as a setting for this game. Ancient Egypt could be a really cool place. We have a really cool explanation for how we can do this, and it is with this Animus device that allows us to go to anytime in history.

"People are really surprised with where we took Assassin's Creed 4 because it was back in time from Connor's time. But we've never outright said that we are always moving forward. It just happened to be that way because we went from Altair to Ezio, then Ezio to Connor and there was a lot of hype about the American Revolution.

"However, it was never a set rule that we always get closer to the present day. We were a bit surprised by people who saying, 'how do you go back in time, how's that possible?' It's that Animus device we have. But again, I'm not saying Egypt is where the next one is going, it's just where I would like it to go," Ismail said.

There are so many possibilities for where the series could go next and for gamers, and developers, it's a great thing that Ubisoft doesn't feel enslaved to continue moving forward in time. That would have cut out a lot of magnificent time periods with the game that hit last year.

Now this I'm interested in. I only ever finished one AC game though (can't even remember which one), and now there's a huge episodic story that I can't be bothered to play them all in sequence.

I can imagine a great number of places I would love to explore as an Assassin...Number 1 on that list would be Feudal Japan! Imagine an Assassin having to watch his back from a clan of Ninja
