Thread: To next-gen or to PC? That is the question.

Lets look at it like this:

A Proper Gaming PC would cost you round about R10K; a gaming laptop about R15K; a console about R5K to R6K.

Why not get a cheap R 3-4 K laptop for your work/music related activities and a Next Gen console for gaming?

^^^^^THIS and on the upside if you bought a console in 2008(roughly) then you didn't need any new hardware upgrades in +/- 5 years...

I used to be PC only, and I can't see myself going back to main gaming on PC, love my console, chilling on the couch, popping in a game and pressing start without any crap ever

Lets not forget, that laptop is a set unit. Most you can change is the amount of RAM. If you are lucky.

PS4 could support keyboards and mice at a later stage too, making it easier to browse the web.

Same with the xbox. Personally Im getting both, but will most likely only play exclusives on the consoles and the rest will be PC.

OP, great post. Your problem is all too real for most gamers out there. Personally I'll the rocking on both PC and Xbox One, as my PC at the moment is more than capable of handling any games for at least the next 2 years. My motivation to buy the Xbox One however is more based on the actual games available on the platform than the ease of use.

Sometimes you just can't afford to have both AND afford to play games on them. I never got a PS3 because regardless of how I budgeted I wouldn't be able to afford to buy games on it whilst still paying for internet and PC games.

Sometimes you gotta make 1 choice.

Pretty much same as I will be doing except I'm going PS4 instead.

Yah, that's great but it's not my point. All I'm saying is with PC gaming you don't need to constantly upgrade. He could buy a 7850 now for R2000 which has the same graphics ability as a PS4 and then keep it for as long as the PS4 exists... nothing is forcing him to upgrade.

Well, for me personally. I don't see the point. I have a gaming PC, I don't need more pointless equipment lying around the house. It remains a choice for everyone to make on their own. Who knows I might change my mind, but that will only be after the next gen consoles have been out for a while, I definitely will not pre-order them.

I originally had that view but then bought a XBOX as our baby was occupying my study/gaming room which is adjacent to our main bedroom.

With my eldest now showing a keen interest in gaming, the XBOX works better as it lives in our tv room. So I game on both now, but my PC remains my 1st choice.
