Getting a GPU from Thailand?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone knows what the market for pc hardware is like in Thailand. A family member is going over there for a while and he doesn't mind picking one up for me. Im going to ask him to look out for the R9-280x.
Would it work out much cheaper for me or should i just save him the hassle and save up to buy one here?
The cheapest ones here are around 4k.

Also is there anything else I should know about bringing in a GPU from overseas, never done it before.

The market in Thailand is full of fakes, just like the Chinese and Japanese markets.
The packaging looks legit but its most likely a small brick or an old gpu in the box.

I don't advise buying overseas unless your buying from a reputable shop.
As for bringing it into the country, you don't really need to know anything. Tell them its a gift you brought back if they ask you about it.

As Joker said, there are a lot of fakes. Try going for a reputable brand, that is predominant in Asia. Foxconn, ECS or Zotac, Powercolor or Galaxy (Force3D)

You can always ask then to open the box for you, having been to a couple of Asian countries, it is common business practice to open the product and show it to the customer for reassurance.

There is no import duty payable on computer hardware as confirmed with customs a month ago when I imported a load of server components.
Be careful of buying anything in Thailand as the Hangover ha taught us, everything there may not be what it seems
