Default So the roof just caved in at work...

Was about to leave as my shift had ended and Green Acres shopping centers roof just gave way and poured in 1000's of litres of rainwater.
This is the second time in less than a year this has happened, this time it's about 100 times worse and has affected our store, water has seeped in the entire shop and had gotten to our back office by the time we had left.

So an explanation would be nice I would assume? Basically Green Acers Center management has neglected that fact that the roofing is old and keeps damming up water when it rains, it can't drain it fast enough so it collects on the roof and when it gets too much (I estimate about 1 ton of water) it crashes through the roof.

As I stated above this is the second time this has happened and it's in exactly the same place as it was last time... Fun times tomorrow at work, got to mop up a shop full of water. Thankfully we managed to get most of our stock off of the floor otherwise that would have been a even bigger disaster.

I am going to speak to center management and demand that they assist in cleaning up our store as it was due to their lack of upkeep that we have to suffer a loss in trading.

Very sad to hear that because of somebody else's incompetence/negligence you have to suffer. Wonder who the owners of the mall are?

I see Liberty Properties owns this, so perhaps it's time that anchor tenants start making a noise!

They are a bunch of twats, honestly. The mall is falling apart but they are stuffing their pockets.

Thanks, I guess I got to get to bed early and have a look at the damage tomorrow.

That's very unfortunate. Shitty workmanship leads to these unnecessary mishaps. Going to need a decent clean-up crew. I'm guessing many shops were affected by this ordeal?

CNA, Specsavers, Musica (store I work at), Steers, Cassies, Donna Claire, Mugg & Bean, Hilton & Winer, Jenni Button, @home, DueSouth/Totalsports, Cape Union Mart, Kines, YDE and Nedbank as far as I can recall.

CNA, Mugg & Bean and Nedbank had it the worst as the initial torrent of water shot out, it sounded like a waterfall the water was running out so fast.

Most of the Clothing stores stock rooms were flooded shorty after the roof caved in.

What is it with shopping malls and shit roofs? I know 3 close by with roofs that caved.

They should condemn the building until it is fixed completely, perhaps when 10+ angry businesses are breathing down your neck for reasons as to why their branches cannot trade, management will think twice.

I am just glad at the time that the roof fell in, no one was hurt.

Will upload a short clip I managed to get on my phone.

That must be a great loss to those stores. Hopefully they can still salvage most or some of the goods.

    Hi Glordit,

We saw your post 25-10-2013 and we would like to confirm that flooding did occur at the centre on the afternoon of 25th October 2013. However, there was no structural damage that occurred; hence, we can assure our shoppers and their tenants that their safety has not be compromised.

We do understand that the flood resulted in inconvenience; however we are looking into the situation and how best to prevent similar incidences going forward.

Should you wish to discuss this in more detail, you can contact the Greenacres Shopping Centre Management Team on 041 363 0791 and ask to speak to Brent.

    Thanks
