Default [HOWTO] Buy online without a CC

    Hey guys

Well i just figured out this morning how to buy online with a credit card without actually having a credit card technically. So ill do simple steps here...

Pretty basic, with a service from Easypay (if you look at the bottom of say your telkom bill or electricity bill you will see their logo) called VCpay. (www.vcpay.co.za)

How it works is you deposit money into a virtual wallet then you create virtual credit cards on the app on your phone. so step by step here we go

    1. Go to vcpay.mobi and download the app (Available for android, ios and bb)

    2. Once downloaded register on the phone you downloaded

    3. Once registered you will need to deposit the cash into your "ep wallet", follow these instructions at https://www.vcpay.co.za/depositFUNDS.aspx

    4. Once funds have cleared (roughly about 10-30 mins) you will then need to create a virtual card on the phone for the amount you want (ie you can put say 500 into the account but only make a 200 vcc so u can make another one later)

    5. Once the vcc has been made, buy online as you would using the details of the virtual credit card as you would a normal credit card

Nice thing is once you registered every transaction you do it sends you a sms with both the purchased value (dollar, euro etc) and it also gives you a rand value

    Enjoy!

What happens to the money that is left over and do you have to use a phone to use this service?

As far as im aware it keeps it as a "balance" that you can do anything with, make another virtual credit card, pay your electricity pay your fines, w.e u want.

You can make more than one vcc

Phone im assuming havnt tried it on my tablet yet, just done it on my bb9300, but if its available for android and ios i assume you can use it on a tablet, unfortunatly cant use the website to create a vcc

    Whooo I'm relevant!
Developed the backend fabric for this.

@Waco, the phone thing is a security feature and if I'm not mistaken you'll only need to be able to receive a text. (it's been a while so double check still)

Just keep in mind when creating your virtual card, some vendors like Google/Amazon will do a $1 charge to the card when you add it as a pay option. They do reverse it but normally takes 1 to 2 days for this to happen.

Just keep in mind - no AVS on these cards, so there are some scenarios where a VCC won't work. Should be fine for most places though.

I went with entropay, but I'm sure vcpay is great too.

Also many places do accept your bank/debit card if it's tied to a credit card provider. For example, my bank card has a MasterCard logo on it and I can use it (as far as I can tell) everywhere where a credit card can be used. Works on online places like the Steam Store and humble bundle like a charm

Just use Capitec. I buy online all the time just using my Debit Card.

Don't know if other banks offer the same thing; but Capitec is superior any way.
