Default Anyone else been getting phone calls from "Microsoft"

This is the first time that it's happened to me, but one of my buddies said that it happens to him quite often. A very Indian sounding man phoned me (on my home phone) today. I could barely hear him because there was so much background noise, but he wanted to let me know that he was from 'Microsoft' and he wanted to know if I had a computer.

Now, I'm fairly sure that if you use a Microsoft product like Windows, you would have a computer. I tried messing with him a little bit, but he wouldn't budge, and kept asking me if I had a computer. Never even gave me his name

I've heard that there was a scam doing the rounds where people would say that they could see a problem with your pc; it was infected with "viruses", and would send you to a link where you could input your details and "fix the problem".

I guess I could've told him what he wanted to hear, but honestly I wasn't really in the mood for it today. I can't seem to find the number on my phone's history, otherwise I would post it here

    Anyone had similar experiences recently?

Ya, my mother in law got a call like that a while back, so she told them that she uses a mac. I got one as well another time so I hung up on them because it's an obvious scam.

    That's what I do.

I've gotten calls from them several times. It's gotten to the point where I don't answer the landline anymore. If anyone wants me, they can contact me on my cell.

Thing is, she actually does use a Mac, she got all annoyed with them like how could my Windows have a problem if I'm on a Mac?

They phone my gran from time to time. She doesn't even have a computer.

They apparently get you to install some remote control software on your pc so they can 'fix' it.

yeah, this scam has been going for ages. they ask you to go to a PCAnywhere type website and then they control your PC. i spent 30 minutes with a guy on the phone and i let him chase me around. it was quite a laugh. wish i recorded it, so you all could laugh too

Happens all over, also got one some time ago.

Pretended I was a dumb user that could not get "their" remote admin application to work on my PC... only to reveal about half and hour to an hour later that I was using Linux

OMG yes, I've been waiting for this post...

And yes, many times. The first time he phoned I was thinking to myself, almost immediately, what is this kak?

After that I told him very mooi to loop kak. I'm very worried for the not so computer literate people, especially older folks like our parents etc that's going to be taken for a gap by these okes. I educated my folks about this very quickly though and I'd suggest you do the same before these scammers get hold of some of their valuable information.
