Correct. The original 60 was backward compatible but not for all games. Think this was a problem hence they canned it now. Too much effort "supporting" for all games.
Have one and never use it for PS2 games.
Ok coz i know when it came out all the PS fanbois where screaming it kicks the Xbox's ass coz its backwards compatible out of the box. shows what they knew.

surely a software emulator cannot be that hard to create with all the relative power in the ps3. If they are not doing it, it is because they do not think it is important enough.
The only reason i haven't sold my ps2 and my massive ps2 games collection yet is that i wouldn't be able to go back to Ico or Shadow of the C if i do.
well it's a pretty straightforward affair to get ps2 games to run on the ps3 ! step 1 get a ps3 that can run linux (any old model sku will do) step 2 get pcsx2 linux edition (it will have to be recompiled to be compatible with the cell though (but it really isnt that hard) and voila you have a working ps2 emulator on a ps3 ! (I do have a decompiled copy of pcsx2 and im pretty sure i could do it if i had the time available, but i dont even have time for my nfs mod these days so i'll pass for now).
