Thread: So why doesn't PC ever get included in wars?

Default So why doesn't PC ever get included in wars?

Ok, I think everyone has seen atleast a few console wars but I don't often see people say "the pc has much better graphics or controls than whichever console", I know pc prices varie and not everyone can afford them but if you can afford a console and expensive console games the pc shouldn't be much more. BTW, I have a console so I'm just wondering.

I dunno it just doesn't fit. Like the whole apples and oranges philosophy. You wont compare a motorbike to a car even though they essentially both do the same thing.

Well the screen shots of the same game wouldn't be a that far off comparison ?

well there is a mac and pc war that has been raging since i was like -5 or somthing like that. ive seen many xbox v ps3 threads but they are nothing compared to the shit that goes on in a mac v pc forum
    thers also intel vs amd
    and ati vs nvidia
so pc has its own personal war

No, but target audience would be and that's where the X vs Y arguments reside in. The PC isn't really competing with consoles like the Xbox is competing with the Playstation 3.

Other than crisper testures, potentially insane resolutions, antialiasing and whatever DirectX 11 rings to the table. Remember that the nVidia GTX295 and Radeon HD 4870x2 are powerful beasties

    ;-)

I wouldn't compare them, because they are not in the same class:apples with oranges as Isengard says.

I'd wager that a fully pimped out gaming pc would run rings around PS3 and Xbox360 and then still help you to balance the books, finish that programming project and transcode your video collection. Of course, it would cost a ton, which is where the consoles have teh 1337 Gaming PC beat.

    I think that's where the issue is...You can't have a pc vs xbox/ps3 argument.
The pc is the all rounder (the Jacques Kallis)..it can do everything brlliantly where as your console (the Sachin tendulkar) is brilliant at only 1 thing.

Its simple when you look at it like that.

Oh, there are PC WARS alright, it is just not in the public sector, i.e. where we are.

The big corporate / commercial / industrial sector is where you see the PC Wars quite clearly.

DELL / HP / IBM are forever fighting the PC WAR for the biggest piece of the pie, i.e market share. Last report I saw was DELL had the edge with the bigger market share. HP was a close second, but catching up. (I stand to be corrected, it might be the other way around)

The problem with these PC wars though, is that they cannot fight each other with the components, since they are all getting it from the same people - Intel, AMD, NVidia, ATI, Samsung, LG, etc.
So, where they are competing is on a whole different level - form factor, ease of use / usability, sales, support and then the bleeding edge tech, of which the Green initiative is very strong atm.

^ This, I consider to be the REAL PC wars.

The mac vs pc is something else, it's like all the above vs the mac.

It is very much the same with the MS vs Open Source war, not just Redhat, Suse, Ubuntu, etc. but all of them.
What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.

Consoles and PCs, whilst they may fulfill many of the same purposes, are rather different. The gaming environment is very different, for starters. Consoles tend to appeal more to casual gamers than the PC does, as they are far easier to operate and much less daunting to the new-comer.

I guess the reason they aren't included in "wars" is due to this fact that they tend to appeal to different markets. You'll obviously find hardcore PC and console gamers, but when it comes to casual gamers you'll most likely find they tend to stick to one side of the spectrum. The PC and consoles aren't really competing against each other at all.
