When Hideo Kojima announced the Deja Vu mission for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes -- a PlayStation-exclusive side op that casts you as the PS One version of Solid Snake -- the Internet saw a glimmer of hope. It was the hope that this might mean the return of David Hayter as Solid Snake.

Today, it looks like that hope has been crushed. An informed source close to Hayter/Metal Gear says the actor has not been approached to reprise his role.

This is just the latest chapter in Hayter and Metal Gear's public breakup. Hayter had been the English voice of Snake since 1998. After Metal Gear Solid V was announced, Hayter stated that he wasn't involved in the project, and later, series creator Kojima announced actor Kiefer Sutherland as the new voice of Snake.

Still, Kojima's roll out of Metal Gear Solid V information has been filled with diversions, fake names, and confusion. Fans are still holding out hope that Hayter is just playing along and is actually a part of the game as he's voiced these characters for so long.
