If you really want to change, I would suggest Foobar2000. It has a fairly steep learning curve but imho is the best music-only player out there.
Way to big a footprint for me to ever even think of using it also takes forever to open (By Winamp 2.9 standards)

Well the learning curve is more related to customization, more than anything else. I fyou happy to stick with the default interface, it shouldn't be that hard to use. When it comes to playing music quickly it does that for sure.

Not sure what playlist/queuing features you need specifically but foobar pretty much does it all. Anyway, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Really? I'm pretty sure it has the smallest footprint of the other alternative players listed above. Mine is up and running almost instantly and I've never had issues with it's mem usage. But it's been years since I've even looked at winamp. Anyway, just offering up another alternative for those interested in looking.

Noooooooo!!! I can't use any other media player.
So grabbing the latest version and keeping it in a secure storage and zipped for added protection.
RIP. You really whipped the llama's ass!

I've tried fubar and and to me it really stands just for that if you know what fubar means (Foorbar actually) i like a simple yet sleek music player that does what i want it to do without going through a bible of steps to work like i want it

i'll stay with winamp like i said until it refuses to work anymore then i'll look at media monkey

Something that is good but costs a bucket load of money is this "J. River Media Center" unless you can acquire it by other means

it's not one of the best or brightest but does a couple of nifty things

But currently media monkey is rated the best out there and our beloved winamp is at 2

Yeah, I'll probably stick with Winamp as long as possible... Until it becomes incompatible with some future version of Windows or something.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Terrible news... I love Winamp!! Not only for managing my playlists, but also for getting track ID's (will this function still work in a month's time??)... Is there any other music player able to do that...for free?

Nothing comes close to Picard MusicBrainz not even Winamp

That puppy can track down songs even if you have zip in the tag/filename......
