A lot of these state laws are very old, and were possibly more applicable 100 years ago than they are today.
That doesn't change the fact that they are quite ridiculous! They really need to clean some of those up.

Also, what Jabberwocky said. These are just rephrasings of laws to make them sound "funny". A woman can't read her husband's mail in Montana? Actually, it's a federal offence to open anyone else's mail pretty much anywhere in the States, regardless of your sex.
