Default Microsoft Bringing a 'Beloved Franchise' to Windows 8

A Microsoft Game Studios job posting has provided a vague sense of what's to be expected next from Microsoft on the PC game front. It appears Microsoft is at work on a "new title based on a beloved franchise for Windows 8."

The job posting went live today and is seeking a senior engineer for the aforementioned project. There is no indication of what franchise Microsoft is working on, but it does note the development team "is focused on building a robust and highly scalable cloud service that is central to the game experience." However, considering the wide variety of games making use of Azure cloud features on Xbox One -- including Titanfall and Forza Motorsport 5 -- the inclusion of cloud support in this new PC game doesn't do much to narrow things down.

If this new game is exclusive to Windows 8 on PC, it wouldn't be the first time Microsoft limited one of its games to the newest version of its operating system. Most famously, the PC version of Halo 2 required Windows Vista when it was released in 2007, much to the chagrin of those disinterested in upgrading to Vista or paying a fee to play online, as was the case with Games for Windows Live at the time. More recently, the PC version of Halo: Spartan Assault was limited to Windows 8.

Microsoft reiterated its support for PC gaming last month, with MGS boss Phil Spencer claiming there are "more individual projects on Windows than we've had in ten years at Microsoft Studios." He further indicated that the company is looking beyond the casual games it had available on Windows 8 at launch, stating, "Now we're starting to look at bigger and core gamer things. I'm excited by that."

More recently, Microsoft revealed (again by way of job postings) that it was exploring its "back catalog of existing IP," as well as free-to-play games. It's possible this could be related to the new Windows 8 project. The same could be said for a job posting for a technical director on a new game at Fable developer Lionhead -- though whether that's for a Windows 8 version of Fable Legends or something else entirely remains to be seen.

going by popularity it'll probably be either halo or gears

I could however be entirely wrong

im guessing halo, gears or forza ! i doubt its gonna be fable since fable 1 and 3 are already on pc, if its from their back catalogue on the 360, there's perfect dark, crackdown etc but all 360 games are gonna need a schitload of internal retooling to work on pc thats why gears 1 on pc was built from the ground up (on a upgraded version of UT3)
