Default Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition boasts 1080p resolution, 'buttery framerate'

Crystal Dynamics has detailed the numerous improvements players can expect to see in the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, explaining that the new port is "a colossal effort, soaked in visual enhancements and technical optimizations."

The game will run at a native 1080p resolution on the PS4 and Xbox One, and will be bolstered by a "buttery framerate" throughout. The new port is bundled with all of the game's previously released multiplayer DLC, along with the bonus The Tomb of the Lost Adventurer add-on, six alternate outfits, and a collection of digital comic books and documentary featurettes.

Lara herself has also seen an upgrade for the upcoming port, as Crystal Dynamics has implemented a new head and face model for the game's misfortune-prone protagonist, along with subsurface scattering technology that results in more realistic skin glow.

While a handful of games released last year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 were available at a discounted rate for buyers who wished to upgrade to PS4 and Xbox One versions, Eidos notes that it will not offer a Definitive Edition discount for players who purchased a previous version of Tomb Raider on any platform. The company additionally revealed that Definitive Edition's upgrades are exclusive to current-gen consoles; an update for the Windows PC version of Tomb Raider is "not planned."

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be priced at $59.99 when it launches in North America on January 28.

    Define "buttery framerate"......

But I'm really glad console gamers will be able to play this game the same way PC gamers have been since it came out....

Well when I think of butter I think of a huge frozen brick of butter. So maybe its a chunky 1 FPS until it warms up

Agreed though, it will be nice to see console gamers up here, it's a nice view.

PC gamers are going to be peeved when they see this game in action. Watch carefully. This version is going to blow the PC version out of the water, and PC Elitists are going to be left with a "WTF" expression on their face. It's gonna happen!

Doubt it, the PC you need to fun everything at max is still way more powerful than a PS4, they can't do more than bring it up to PC level. All they are doing is taking the toys from PC, porting them to the console version and then redressing Lara in a new outfit to say look it's brand new. It's basically a PC port to console.

    This.

TressFX was a huge frame killer and my PC isn't exactly low spec'ed :/ So for them to be running it buttery smooth (I'm guessing 60fps?) AND supposedly having everything PC has and more seems a bit far fetched doesn't it?

Have you guys bothered reading the article? The lighting is enhanced (not available in the PC version), some of the models are completely changed and enhanced (not available in the PC version). Based on comparison screenshot the new console definitive edition looks better than the PC version in a number of areas.

Sorry lads. Console > PC in this case. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but, I'm sure Nvidia or AMD will release a R16,000 GPU that bring you out on top again soon.

No, in this case console is not better than PC. A game has been released on console with better features that the developer won't release on PC.

I would look at this if I were you, PC on top and the new one is below. TressX looks even better on PC than here, looks like more individual hairs on the PC version.

You can read as many articles as you want but what a publisher says isn't always true nor practical. That is unless you can look at the gameplay demo for aliens colonial marines and says that the same as what the delivered.
