    Default Health Nuts

So I'm recently on a health kick and I've seen mention by a couple other members too and was thinking we need a thread to share ideas.

    What works or doesn't work
Recipes (smoothies, shakes included) for anytime of the day
    Workouts
    Etc, etc

I've been having a read about this LCHF (low carb, high fat) and will be giving it a full go from Friday. I've already cut out carbs for the most part for almost a week now. Feels good not to be 'loaded' down. My workout atm consists of swimming and basketball and a punch bag but I started with weights yesterday too just for added oomph. Fitness is my first goal, everything else will fall into place/happen with that. I'll post some recipe type stuff later, feel free to share peeps.

Small health tip from me, Use the stairs instead of the elevator. Does wonders for my invisible calves, and I have no idea why :|

I also need to get on the healthy track. And hit the gym again. I drink way too much gas drinks. At least 2 and a half litres a day. I have to turn that into 2 and a half litres of water.

I've started swim training again. 2km's a day.
Whats cool about swimming is you lose weight and gain fitness without even really trying. Just swim to the other side of the pool.
I lost 3kg's in a week and my buddy lost 4kg's. Best part is we didn't even change our diet. Swimming just burns it up.

I can't recommend swimming enough. You get mad fitness and strength because you excercise with very little breath in comparison to other sports so when you do something like go for a run ,where you can breathe as much as you want, you dominate!

if you like to swim and want to spice up your pool sessions check this website out:

As many probably are doing, I have also started trying to get my health back in order. Unfortunately living on your own for the first time leads to lots of take outs and unhealthy habits. I managed to keep the fat off by going for a run a few times a week and then I'm a fairly active rock climber but I'm now trying to build a lil' more muscle definition and try eliminate the unhealthy food.

The unhealthy food is a bit of a problem as our vending machines at work are free and they stock chips, tinkies, jelly beans etc, so at 1 stage I was eating quite a few tinkies a day >.<

So to get into a healthier routine these are my goals for January:
    - Drink a lot more water
    - Stop eating out the vending machine and bring my own healthier snacks
    - No more take outs for supper and try stick to things like skinless chicken and vegetables
    - Breakfast I've always struggled with because I'm just never hungry in the morning but basically I need to get a normal diet together
    - Currently climbing 4-5 times a week for about 1-2 hours a session

Gym wise I'm a noob and just started on Monday but am starting off with:
    - 20 min ride
    - 20 min run
    - Weights (obviously gonna try follow a routine of which muscle group to follow on what days)

Anyway, not the most coherent post I imagine but just my thoughts in a nutshell for January

Also started trying to get fitter and stauncher.

Wanna hit 70kg's minimum with the ultimate goal of 75kg's, currently on 63kg's @ 5'11 - skinny ass.

Been eating 6 meals a day:
    1) Oats for breakfast
    2) Some sort of second breakfast @ 10am (shake, eggs on toast or something, potato salad, whatever I can find)
    3) lunch
    4) Shake after gym
    5) Dinner
    6) Late snack at night (shake, nuts, milk or something)

    Gym I do a 5(sets)x5(reps) workout alternating between 2 workouts 3 times a week:
    1) Squats (5x5), Bench (5x5), Barbell row (5x5)
    2) Squats (5x5), Overhead press (5x5), Deadlift (1x5)
    - increment weights @ 5kg per day
Its all compound exercises, keeping it simple and quick.

Then I surf at least twice a week, and try get in the pool a couple times a week too. The swimming hasn't happened as yet

    I'm currently 65Kg @ 172cm. Was only 60Kg a few months ago...I'm a lil' worried where the 5Kg is sitting since I can't see any fat anywhere.

I'm a lil' torn between gaining too much weight though, as for climbing I ultimately want less weight but at the same time I want to put on a lil' muscle mass.

I am buying light beer and having 6 more when i drink, so the added walking to fridge burns more calories.

(but seriously i am just playing more golf and starting indoor cricket)

I consider myself a big health nut.

I started Gymming since June 2013, and living a healthy lifestyle since then.

Eating as much meat as possible for protein, always drink water! Do not get fooled by diet sodas as they contain "Aspartame" which is one of the causes for cancer, so I rather play it safe and drink tasteless stuff like water.

    My daily food intake:
    1. For breakfast I have a meal replacement shake, which contains lots of vitamins. This is mixed with low-fat milk. - Strawberry flavour.
    2. Between 09:00 and 13:00 I eat parts and bits of my lunch ( mostly biltong, for the protein )
    3. Gym 45min 4 days a week. This is for burning calories, staying active and to be fit. I have no intention of becoming a body-builder.
    4. In the evening, I tend to eat small portions of dinner until my hunger goes away.

Never have snacks before you goto bed in the evening, your metabolism slows down while you're sleeping.
Do not over-eat, this will cause the excessive food your body cannot burn, to turn into unwanted fat.

If any of you would like to start becoming fit, jogging is the first step and the most effective.
