I recon game dev on Console vs PC it is very much like our mobile team. We target iOS 1st cause its a single target and way simpler to problem solve. Only once we happy with our application do we port to Android/Windows Phone cause of the mountains of problems you face when trying to find out why something misbehave on some systems.
I was not dismissing any facts, what you say holds true as the biggest investment advantage of console games. The PC market is not only smaller but carries a huge diversity of hardware standards. I for one hope that SteamBox's will change this to some extent slowly bringing PC and console closer together creating a single platform in time.

I can't agree with that statement.

Play Fifa, 2K (NBA), SSX or any sports game on PC and then try them again consoles, the controller was made for sports games. There is just no way you'd get the same level of immersion on a PC with m/kb as opposed to console and a controller.

I'm gonna assume you mean action/adventure here, if that is the case then you just need to look at Uncharted.

FPS here I agree with you in spirit. I am a CoD fan and it works wonderfully on console but it has been designed with consoles being the primary platform. But yeah, I do believe games like BF could be better if EA didn't try and cater to last-gen.

PC's have been using controllers for decades. People need to understand that controllers aren't unique to consoles.

You do realize that steambox is just: AnyPC + SteamOS with an optional SteamCase

    :EDIT

Even if you buy the so called steambox it is not exactly the same as 100000 xboxes would be or 10000000 pses

What are the specs of the Valve prototype?
We'll tell you more about it soon. Remember, there will ultimately be several boxes to choose from, with an array of specifications, price, and performance.

Why exactly do you think people by consoles to game and not PC's? People don't want AnyPC + SteamOS. They want a shiny box that just works.

When you're found that clarity, you'll understand why the SteamBox is a great idea. But wait! There's more! Understand this today and you'll know why I would ultimately say that it can and most likely will bring consoles and PC closer to eventually share a platform.

I think I lloll'ed a little. Consoles that just works. Consoles that just put disc. You may find that that was, but it isn't like that anymore.

No you are in fact not getting it:
Steambox is to separate gaming from windows, that is the prime directive. Because Gabe was lazy a bastid and only when windows 8 arrived, he only then waked up and decided the deed must be done.

However... nothing stopped him or Notch or whomever to do this a lot earlier, but they were all just cashing on the free ride. Funny thing this linux getting more and more love now, magically, when the ride has changed.

This has been debated so many times but pc's have always received ports of console games ever since the early 90's

    virtua fighter 2 1997 - port (saturn)
colin mcrae rally 1998 port (psx) , cmr 2 2000 enhanced port (psx)
need for speed 3 - enhanced port (psx)
need for speed 4 - graphically enhanced but ai degraded port (psx)
    gta 3 - port (ps2)
nfs hot pursuit II - port (xbox 1)

the list goes on and on and yet there's always a thread asking the same question everytime, without consoles pc gaming wouldnt advance if it wasnt for the 32 bit console era there probably wouldnt have been pc gpu's and everyone would probably still be stuck with 512kb trident vga cards.
