    Default Documentary about gaming addiction

Must get hold of this documentary somehow, somewhere.

Do we have any "Game addicts" in the house?

Gaming addiction could be possibly due to bad parenting, agree? Or could it also be classified as a mental problem?

Love Child, a new documentary about online game addiction in South Korea, has premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

According to the festival's official website, the documentary explores the adverse affects of South Korea's fast and affordable internet infrastructure through the story of a couple whose three-month-old daughter died of malnutrition while they were playing the massively multiplayer online game, Prius Online. The Korean MMO's name was later changed to Arcane Saga, and was finally shut down in December 2013.

The story wasn't reported on much in the United States since it broke in 2010, but the couple received a reduced sentence after the court recognized their addiction as a mental disorder.

The filmmakers talked to game developers, the police detective assigned to the case, the lawyer, and the family.

"Korea has had high speed Internet for much longer than we have in the States," director Valerie Veatch said in an interview with Indiewire. "They have a very sophisticated gaming industry and culture. This story was completely different [than] it was played in the international news media. It was fear that [drove] these news stories."

Veatch's previous documentary ME @ THE ZOO_, told the story of Chris Crocker, who uploaded the viral “Leave Britney Alone!” video to YouTube.

I wouldn't say in addicted. If I get a new game I'll disappear from the world for a while but I'm able to tell when it's getting too much. Korea seems to have a problem with it though. I've seen a few articles of kids dying from non stop play for days etc. What game is that good?

Yeah I think it's mental problems then.

I think you might be referring to this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4137782.stm but there have been other stories like this as well

I can agree with you on WoW. I used to be an addict, but as time elapsed I got bored and gave me account to someone else to continue playing till the gametime expired.

But nowadays I cannot play a game for more than an hour, will get extremely bored or will need a break.

With certain games I am like that so I don't purchase them anymore and just stick to what grabs my attention more now.

Find it pointless buying stuff which I get bored after an hour.
