Candy Crush Saga Makers Go After The Banner Saga. For Real.

It feels like it's taken forever - and if you've been stuck playing the game's multiplayer component, out since last year, that's … Read…

On December 27, 2013, King.com filed a "Notice of Opposition" with the US Patent and Trademark Office. It says that because King has 13 trademarks with the word "saga" in them, Stoic's colourful strategy game isn't allowed to use the word.

As part of the filing, King allege the following. And I promise you, this is a real document, not a joke.

The "Applicant" is Stoic, who were applying for a trademark on The Banner Saga. A turn-based strategy game with a rich RPG element and nordic inspiration. The "Opposer" is King.com. Who make some puzzle games with candy in them.

I think the big money company will steam roll Stoic's saga out of their game. Not long from now it will only be known as The Banner

This is getting so out of hand. Allowing the word 'Candy' to be trademarked has opened up a nasty can of worms.

Lost a little respect for the makers, I am a regular CC player, but now it's going a bit far.

They trying to be like APPLE, patenting a rectangular phone with round edges. - something as stupid as that. But "candy" going a bit far

That is so stupid how can it be allowed that people can trade mark words they didn't invent the word so what gives them sole right to it

Nobody should ever have been allowed to trademark single dictionary words. Trademarks should be left for words you invented yourself and phrases.

The worst part about this is that even though most of us know it's bullshit, there's very little we can actually do about it.
