Default Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Pre-Alpha Gameplay (aka Assassin's of the Rings: Lord Edition)

Looks interesting, but borrows too heavily from other games, from what I can see from this trailer.

The wraith powers look like the animal powers from the AC3 DLC.

    The premise is interesting though.

I am a huuuuge Lord of the Rings fan (although, to my shame, I am yet to finish even the first book). Almost all the Youtube comments for this game are super positive but strangely enough, I don't really get the hype. It seems like (as people have mentioned) an Assassin's creed clone with Arkham city elements thrown in.

It just doesn't seem like you are in Middle Earth. It also seems like those type of games that feign open world, but in fact are just a glorified story driven game. Where the RPG progression and skills take a back seat to the story and missions, something which I have always hated. I much rather prefer the Oblivion/Skyrim style to say the Arkham City RPG style (although I did enjoy Arkham City).

Then again, I have never really cared much about story, so that might be a big part of the problem. But I can't shake the feeling that I am not really in Middle Earth. Even the character seems very out of place.

I would much rather have preferred playing as a Ranger/knight, roaming a true open world , playing quests I wish (much like Oblivion/Skyrim), but with much more solid fighting mechanics(think Dark Souls), and a much more rich world (Lord of the Rings is such a great setting imo). Variety of weapons, skill trees, fighting trolls etc etc.

    Ok rant over.
