    Yeah I read this yesterday.

What I love is that they used existing hardware to reach those speeds.

If internet connections at even a tenth of this were the norm; could you justify even owning a large capacity HDD?

I've found that, for this, the "ideal" connection speed is 100Mbps (12MB/s)--that's essentially a 20GB download done in just under 30-minutes. Everything in excess of that speed is just pure gravy.

And, as someone currently making do with a 200Mbps cable connection after having spent three months trialling a 500Mbps package (endless grief with my ISP so I switched back) and looking forward to my new apartment as of 1 March that will have a 1Gbps fibre connection, I can attest to this fact.

I used to keep all sorts of crap installed on my hard drives, whether I was going to use it or not purely because, should I suddenly feel like it, I don't want to spend three days downloading it all over again.

Waiting 30-minutes for a download? Yeah, I don't have a problem with that. Three days? GFY.

But either way, I like a fast connection just because I can afford it and five minutes is still better than thirty
