Even if ManU had no UEFA this season the result would have been the same. That team's problems stem from lack of a powerful successor to Ferguson; and lack of squad depth and adaptability. Another major thing is that ManU have lost the psychological edge that Ferguson gave them. Teams used to face United having accepted that a loss is the likeliest outcome due to fantastic tactics and leadership. Now teams actually asses the player's abilities and say "wait a second! these guys aint so tough". I think it will be a while yet before Man U can truly be considered a title contender again.
At least this season's end isnt as bad as they usually are, got the world cup in just under a month to keep us busy.
