How is it selfish? I doubt he took drugs for fun. I think he suffered with depression and it made life bearable. Don't judge a person until you have lived in their shoes.

One could argue that, if he had depression, it is still selfish to decide to self-medicate with drugs rather than seek professional help. But I personally am good friends with a struggling addict so I know that is much easier said than done, and so I do my best to avoid judgement as everyone has their own reasons. Unfortunately for Philip it got the best of him in the end.

I wonder if many actors suffer from depression. It must be quite tough, going from having so much attention for your movie, award, etc., and then suddenly getting no attention until your next movie. Also having a movie do badly must be terribly depressing.

Perhaps he was suffering from depression and not thinking rationally. Then again, this is all purely speculation, all that I've seen is that his death appears to be drug-related. And if it was suicide, how can that ever be selfish? Being selfish is doing something to improve your lot while disregarding other people, killing yourself would be a whole different concept that people not prone to those kind of thoughts cannot properly comprehend.

Just remembered he had a role in the next to Hunger Games flicks. I wonder if he completed filming, and if now, what now?

Well, it would be "improving his lot" as he would be escaping the depressive state that he has immersed himself into over the years, month, weeks, whatever. Suicide is an escape. But the family is left to suffer. However, I don't think this was suicide. I think it was an accident, if it was indeed a drug overdose. Either way, he was an intelligent man who knew the consequences of his actions.

I just feel terrible for his kids. 3 Kids are left without a father.

Sad news. I caught only have the news bulletin this morning and thought it was Dustin Hoffman at first. Can't say it's any less of a shock when I got the whole story. I just never pictured him a junkie, but apparently it's been a problem when he was younger. A quote of his from IMDB:
