NASCAR '14 Skipping PS4, Xbox One

Developer Eutechnyx revealed to Sports Illustrated that NASCAR '14 won't be coming to Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Ed Martin, executive vice president for Eutechnyx, brought up Gran Turismo 6 when explaining the reasons behind skipping next-gen for NASCAR '14.

“We took a good, hard look at it, but there just isn’t enough hardware out there yet to justify the cost of development,” Martin said. “The nail in the coffin was when a guy from Sony talked about Gran Turismo and how their new game was launching on PS3. He said something like, ‘Why would we put Gran Turismo on a console that has zero units in the market when there are 150 million PlayStation 3s out there?’

"Well, it’s a great question. It costs us about $6 million to develop a next-gen version of NASCAR. You have to sell an awful lot of copies in order to meet the development costs, on top of all the licensing."

What NASCAR '14 will have, though, is online leagues, which Martin said was one of the most-requested features for the racing franchise. "We heard of a lot of gamers actually doing this offline," he said. "They would hold private races and keep track of the stats themselves. Now we handle all of that for you.”

NASCAR '14 releases February 18 for PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

I have '13 for PC but haven't even installed it yet guess i'll give it a try this weekend and then decide if i want '14 too i love racing games, wonder if you can cause those massive pile ups nascar is famous for

Not even remotely a fan of nascar, but this is one of the most intelligent responses to nex gen development iv heard... Skipping one year will benefit them to such a large degree... I have to admit i wondered a hell of a lot about why they didnt push the launch for GT6 and release it on PS4, i mean it was made by the same company... They must have spoken release dates etc... Then i heard GT7 would release on PS4 at a later stage and it really confused me... I thought they would just port 6 to the PS4... But this makes way more sense...

i dont care much about nascar but i hope sega revives the daytona series again, Daytona usa bankrupted me back in the day. still unmatched to this day on a fun factor

I remember that. It was a lot of fun. Played the hell out of it at the Arcade.

Never played the Nascar games but did drive the cars in gt6.There is a skill to driving them because they are so heavy takes quite a lot of skill.
