Default Ubisoft sees 35% drop in sales

Ubisoft reported 520 million euros ($709.5 million) in sales for the third quarter of the 2013 - 2014 fiscal year, which ended December 31, 2013. The sales represent a 35.2 percent drop year-over-year. Ubisoft reported total sales of 813 million euros ($1.1 billion) for the first nine months of the fiscal year, a 24.8 percent decrease compared to the nine-month-period earnings one year prior. Additionally, it reported a 4 percent decrease year-over-year in digital sales, which amounted to 53 million euros ($72.3 million).

Ubisoft cited the "console transition period" among the reasons for the company's losses in the quarter, pointing to back-catalog sales of 53 million euros ($72.3 million), a 21 percent contraction. The publisher also saw "lower-than-expected sales" for Rocksmith 2014, but said it shipped 10 million units of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. All in all, it expects approximately 1,000 million euros ($1.36 billion) in sales for the full fiscal year 2013 - 2014.

I would be more willing to buy Ubisoft games if they had better steam integration and less U-play.

Those numbers would be making them feel loads of pain. Can only hope they bounce back soon.

Insane numers! But then again, as stated, there are still games out there that are in the pipeline that the public is super keen on getting. So hold you chin up high, and perhaps stop taking massive bonuses, and you will be sharp.

Their financial report makes for some interesting reading. It's quite shocking to see that on a platform level, PC sales is tracking lower that PS3 (#1), Xbox 360 (#2) and even the Wii (#3), and for a brief period of Q3 2013/2014 fiscal year, trailed the PS4 sales as well. Seems as if their U-Play ecosystem for the PC is not justified at all. Maybe they should look at these figures and realise that a big expenditure for them are serving a small portion of their sales. Or am I understanding what U-play does for them wrong?

Another thing that is very interesting is their mobile platform performance. They have multiple games available on the Play Store and iTunes, but seems to be a relative small sales stream compared to the other platforms. I would've expected that to be different, with the mobile showing some strength.

I think Ubisoft alienated many PC gamers when they pulled the DRM nonsense and called all PC gamers dirty rotten pirates. I still buy the games though because they have some great titles, but for them as a publisher I'm no big fan.

Well I was one of the PC gamer's that they hurt with U-play DRM, I literally stopped buying Ubisoft games from 2010-late 2013 and the only games I bought end of 2013 was Farcry 3 (Still haven't played it yet)

AC 2 and HAWX 2 with their always online checks made me avoid their games like its a plague or something. Will see later when I get to Farcry 3 if they started to redeem themselves.
