The universe has (as well as many of its reputable sources) covered all these questions before. Google is your friend

If you leave your pc on and let it go into sleep mode the idle power consumption is incredibly low and you will most likely not see any difference on your month end electricity bill.
As for hardware wear and tear, again won't make much if any difference because the system is in idle, so the hardware isn't under any load. The only time you'll see any form of wear and tear is if the pc runs 24/7 under full load and even then, if its properly ventilated and not getting hot it'll be fine.

So I only turn my PC on when needed, and when I'm done with it, I switch it off.

Sometimes I forget about it though.
if you doing it to save energy, you should unplug instead of turning em off. Transformers consume power even when nothing is drawing power. or flick the switch at the back.

A PC that is turned off can still draw up to 1W/h, oh and while we at it your phone charger still consume power even if no phone is plugged in.

I personally let my PC hop in and out of sleep. I hate to close my browser, so when I have to shut down or restart, I press the the restart switch

I switch my PC on when I wake up in the morning and, most of the day I'm on it, so it only gets shut down at or after 00:00.

I switched it off at the wall plugs. Is this not the same as unplugging? Or turning the plugs off at the main switchboard?

My PC stays on pretty much 24/7.

Been getting into [email protected] to help out as much as I can.
