Default “We’re not getting anywhere near the ceiling on PS4”

Developers love to claim they are getting the most out of a piece of equipment as it shows they are really good at what they are doing. It also shows that they’re are going to be offering their customers, gamers, the very best experience possible.

However most of the time we find out that these statements are untrue, as the next big game eclipses it graphically and the claims continue. It is entirely different to see a developer claiming they can’t even see the ceiling with their current game and that is exactly what the developers behind the PlayStation exclusive, Velocity 2X, are stating.

Now to be fair the game isn’t a ultra-realistic graphical masterpiece like The Last of Us but it is lightning quick and there is a lot more happening that you may not see at first.

Speaking to Gamngbolt the Managing Director of FuturLab, James Marsden had this to say

“We’re not getting anywhere near the ceiling on PS4, so we can throw as many particles, lights and explosions at is as the artists want and PS4 just obeys!”

When pushed further he continued to state

“That’s correct (no challenges). No problems whatsoever. The engine was created by Andy Yelland, who has 20 years experience working on AAA game projects. He’s normally a trouble shooter, meaning that he gets hired by the big guys to solve problems they either can’t solve or don’t have time to solve. He’s like a one man A-Team. He created the engine for Velocity 2X for PS Vita and PS4, so from that side of things we were in good hands. The same engine was used for Surge Deluxe on PS Vita”

When asked why this game was a PlayStation exclusive he was quite clear with his opinion on this

“Sony fosters talent in a way that you don’t see anywhere else in the industry. The result is that PlayStation invests in videogames as a medium, and that’s why we’ve chosen to work with them.”

Which just reinforces what we’ve been hearing about Sony since the PlayStation 4 was originally announced. It’s all about the game.
This is actually something that interests me. The max potential of the PS4 is not reached yet, and still to improve!

Guessed as much. Developers constantly claim they're using all the console's power with their new releases etc. Which could be true, but by the time their next game with superior graphics releases, they're better at optimizing things for ultimate performance. PS4's graphics are going to be really incredible by the end of it's life cycle. Just look at The Last of Us compared to Uncharted 1.

Most of the time the developers saying that they maxed out the capabilities of the console is more an advertising gimic to get more publicity for the game rather than an absolutely factual statement.

Yeah no both consoles are still gonna amaze people with how the games are gonna look 3 years from now.

It took ages for dev's to get the most out of the PS3, the PS4 is much easier to develop on though, much more PC like.

I don't think there is as much room as these guys are claiming but I agree that claims that some devs are squeezing every drop of performance are false. Still let's see in 5 years how the PS4 is running, the future looks promising.

The graphics already looks amazing now ( Tomb raider for example). Cannot imagine how further they can improve it
