    Depends on form of FTL
If it's warp like travel then yes not gonna see what's coming. Wormholes on the other hand, not an issue.

Most interesting note on FTL travel is E=mc^2. Mass can't travel faster than light without falling back on itself, ultimately creating a black hole.

However Einstein dismissed quantum mechanics, so yeah...

I remember watching a show called Sci-fi science where they looked at the principle of bending space around one's spaceship, thus bringing point A and point B closer together - also you could move at FTL speeds while remaining stationary relative to the space immediately around you.

When we do eventually get out there, I feel sorry for the rest of the universe. Humans have proven time and again that we are not happy unless we can find an excuse to go to war. We can only hope that we would have evolved past our "I KILL YOU" mentality.

And what if there are even more savage beings out there? Being cold and logical can bring cruelty of note. They might see as as mere animals for extermination?

A very likely possibility. But I honestly think we would be OK. We have proven time and again that we are at our best and worst in the middle of a good fight.

And you need faster than light travel to get anywhere. I mean for one look at humanity's current reach at Light speed(There are stars bigger than our reach) vs size of the universe

    So yeah, there is that
It talks about interstellar travel, not light travel. So aliens from other parts of the milky way should have by now been able to reach us with spaceships traveling thousands of times faster than our current ones, but nowhere near the speed of light. Think 30-40 year trips

Also true. I think we will kak off at first (if we meet a more advanced race), but once we get our hands on some better tech and even the playing field, they are going to have a real fight on their hands.

In a perfect world it would be more of a "Starfleet" scenario where we have moved past our aggressive nature and actually have a sense of honour. Peacefull contact is the first priority.
