Which OS?

Hi,

I'm not sure this the right place :/. But what OS do people in general use and would you recommend upgrading to Win 8.1?

Right now Im running win 7 64 bit. Im just scared of going to win 8.1 and having it make things behave badly (I have a very high distrust of Microsoft ).

Is anyone who is using it have problems with stability and/or driver compatibility? And is it actually worth the upgrade, will my games get speed improvements out of an upgrade?

Currently there is no pressing need for me to upgrade. I was wondering if there are any benefits aside from having the latest stuff.

I've not heard of anybody with driver and stability issues on 8.1 but performance wise it is highly unlikely that you will notice any difference (good or bad).
That said, my next build will run Windows 8.1 simply because it is the current version of windows and you are pretty much guaranteed that the newest versions of drivers, DirectX, Mantle etc will be compatible with it. I won't bother upgrading my old PC to from Windows 7 to 8.1, though, because I don't believe there is enough performance incentive to justify the cost and effort. This is also my recommendation to you: Unless Microsoft runs another $15 upgrade special, don't bother. Next time you buy a PC you can consider it, but not as an upgrade on your current PC.

I also have a question that is semi-relevant here: When building a new PC, what is the cheapest (legal) and easiest way to get Windows 8.1 installed on it?

You have no need to upgrade to windows 8.xx if you are running Windows 7 x64, and it's not worth it either.. in my experience I tried windows8.1 out, hardly had it on my pc for 20min and UPGRADED back to windows 7.

Give it a few more months some issues with it so far but noting too bad just I really hate trying to find anything in 8.1. I know pooky has had problems with corsair headset.

Windows 8 felt like a major downgrade for me, terrible actually.

OP, if you're on Win7 64bit, there's really no need to upgrade at the moment. Win 8.1 probably won't be problematic, but there really is no point in upgrading.
