Blizzard has unfortunately been known not to take into consideration the effects of their actions upon the fan site communities that have constructed themselves around World of Warcraft.
I do think it is important that Blizzard updates the game with these features given the fact that majority of players new/pre-raiding do not even use a single add-on. Quest Helper's features could assist a new player extensively since they are most likely nowhere near experienced enough to start downloading add-ons that provide levelling ease. This addition makes these features native to out of the box gaming.
Having said the above I agree that it is sad for independent developers in the community to be put aside because of Blizzard deciding the developers idea was great and making it their own. I would like to see some more recognition from big blue focused at the former mod developer (in this instance Quest Helper) in the event their idea becomes part of the native game.
Blizzard has done this before in the past and I'm sure as Activision-Blizzard we can see many more "interesting" things in the future where the dedicated community can throw stones at them.
