Thread: Is it worth switching to Live Gold?

Default Is it worth switching to Live Gold?

I've been playing around with the idea of moving to a XBOX Live Gold account so that I can play online a bit more with some friends. Is the online LIVE culture in South Africa big enough to justify the R600 expense? Also, I'm on a 4mb shaped ADSL line, will I have decent latencies or are they still pretty crappy?

First, you shouldn't pay more than R450 for a subscription. Try www.gamepointsnow.com or www.mspoints.co.za.

Live uses p2p connections for online gaming, so if you're playing with locals, you're playing with local pings. And if you have a 4mb line, you'll be much loved because you can host large games too. :P

The local online multiplayer experience is awesome. If you think about it, your Live subs is something like R40/month, so it's not that bad compared to how much fun you're gonna have

    Yes.

    You can also try :
    http://www.live-codes.com

Given that shaped bandwidth is not ideal, but it should not really affect you, especially since most, if not all games are P2P based multiplayer, so if you're playing with friends it's most likely local.

I know the guy who runs the site (he also runs www.xboxgaming.co.za), and it's very reputable.

yes it it is and it is not so bad as a typical mmo sub for ±120-150 p/m; just once of R450

Did the same and haven't regretted it. Borderlands CO-OP was awesome.
