Default How long does it take for a legacy console to appreciate in value?

So after cleaning out my closet I stumbled across my old slim ps1. Plugged everything in and still works like a charm. Then it got me wondering... How long does it take for old consoles to appreciate in value as they become more and more rare/sought after?

How long do you guys think it would take the ps3/360 to become rare vintage consoles? I shudder at the thought of how many years would have to pass by and I truly can't conceive how the gaming market will progress/re-invent itself..
Perhaps VR? Perhaps the death of consoles and the rise of the PC race? Due to the diminishing returns of next gen console graphics

    Who knows...

    depends on the console

the ps1 will take a very loong time to appreciate in value simply because there where so many of them made (102.49 million) and the ps2 could play ps1 games so why bother paying alot of money for a diluted console (the reason im saying diluted is simply because the older phat ps1's will be considered collectors items over the smaller ps1's) i still have my ps1 slim and a phat ps2 and i wouldnt part with it as i stillgame on both ocassionally.

the only ps1 console with a high value attached to it is the net yaroze

now the reason why it has high value is simple, it is rare region free, its technically a devkit and there's not alot of those flying around.

a consoles age doesnt make it more valuable, take for instance a dreamcast (10.6 million units made) it is alot newer then a saturn (9.5 million made) or megadrive but it is priced alot higher, reason is dreamcasts have a cult following, it has some really weird and some really impressive games and it was considered a pinnacle at its time.

also limited edition consoles usually have a higher value (eg you'll get more money from a halo edition 360 than a standard vanilla one)

The 80's are being relived recently. All of us 80's kids are doing things with our kids that we used to do when we were their age. That's why we getting Remember Atari, Remember ZX spectrum kind of threads. I feel 20 years is the duration before reawakening of older thongs. Sometimes it's other reasons but that's my personal experience and understanding
