Thread: Pre-ordering games

I only pre-order certain games that I'm confident will be worth it.

I haven't had too much bad luck with preorders. Pre-orders I've been disappointed / had issues with:
    - Remember Me
    - Sleeping Dogs
    - Kane & Lynch 2 (I actually had issues with this game that had to get patched first)
    - Batman Arkham City (not disappointed, but had issues on launch day)
Can't remember if I pre-ordered Assassin's Creed 3 or not, but got bored after an hour so I left it until about 2 weeks ago.

Other than that, I can't complain about my pre-orders in the past.
    - Mass Effect 2 & 3
    - Dragon Age 2
    - Batman AC and I suppose even Batman AO
    - Saints Row 3
    - Max Payne 3
    - Tomb Raider
    - Hitman
I actually regretted not pre-ordering Saints Row 4 because just after release, there were no more copies available in SA so I couldn't get it. Had to wait for the price on Steam of Gamersgate to drop to reasonable levels before I could buy it since I'm not paying $50 for a game with our exchange rate.

For now, the only games left on my list to pre-order are below. I haven't actually pre-ordered any of these yet, but if Kalahari has some specials again, I'll get it.
    - Dragon Age 3
    - Witcher 3
    - Batman Arkham Knight

Anything else I'll wait until after release or until much cheaper... Especially with Ubisoft games from now on. I don't buy anything from Ubisoft and Capcom before or on release date anymore.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

I really wanted to pre-order Tropico 5 last week for the discount. I forgot to though. Generally I don't see a point to pre-ordering unless you get some kind of discount, yep thats right hats for TF2 don't count.

I mainly only pre-order a game if it's a worth while collectors edition like the previous 3 batman games and Injustice for instance. otherwise i just wait for the game to be released if it's not a Col Ed.

I have been disappointed by one or 2 collectors edition games but i have had a 90% satisfaction rate with pre-order games so far

So i say it's personal choice depending on how your experience has been thus far and if your also a collector of game memorabilia or not.

James can you give me more details on the Arkham Knight Collectors edition?

I've personally never preordered any game - like I've said before, recently it's just not worth the frustration. Hats and camos just don't interest me at all either.

I remember when pre ordering meant ensuring you get a copy of the game before its sold out and it was only available for a few big name games. You basically paid a deposit so the store would order it and hold it for you, then when you came in you paid the balance.

It has become something completely different now. Pre odering a physical copy of something I can understand but not so much these days. Pre ordering a download should just not be done at all.

I keep saying this all over the internet: Pre ordering these days is risky business, AAA games are so incredibly complex, they are all shipped in need of patching. If nobody gets that by now.......

I don't pre-order that often but I will definitely be pre-ordering Dragon Age: Inquisition. In my eyes Bioware can do no wrong.

    haha... You and me both.

There are a handful of developers I support every time:

BioWare, Piranha Bytes, CD Projekt RED and Obsidian
