Yip! Roodepoort / Constantia / Randburg is vrot with these new cameras. It's small enough to hide behind a chevron board. You usually spot their cars down the road (or if you're lucky, up the road) from where it is. I've got a feeling guys are gonna get HELLA fines from these new cameras.

Moral of the story guys - don't speed. And if you do want to play with your car, for heavens sake, scout the area first and do it safely.
My ignore list: growing too fast to keep updating.

I recently received a fine on the N2 in the Mossel Bay District for R400. I saw on the aarto.gov.za website that if you pay within 32 days you get 50% off the fine?

Does anyone have any experience with this? What is the easiest method of payment for the discount to apply? (I live in CT, so going to the Mossel Bay traffic department is not an option).

Ok, just found out it uses radar (the reason why my "device" doesn't pick it up). I know they used these unattended radar cams at one stage between Nelspruit and Middelburg (not sure if it was the same brand), but they eventually had to stop using it because it was too unreliable. For instance, there was a picture in the local newspaper at the time (taken from a speeding fine), showing a guy standing next to his vehicle, talking on the phone and the ticket claiming he is doing 140km/h at that moment. Think these are probably different brand / tech though.

Aarto only applies to fines received in Gauteng. See my message above if you've received the fine via mail. If you got pulled over, you can perhaps go to the court or write them and ask for discount.

No guts, no glory, no brain, same story.

Thanks ViperGTI! Do you think R400 is too big that they'll definitely follow it up with a home-delivery of a futher summons/or write it off?

As a varsity student, R400 is a bit of a blow to my bank account, so if I can get out of it/reduce it, that would be great. On the fine it said, "representation must be submitted within 7 days", which has passed (only received it after the 7 day period anyway..) Could I still go to the department and make a plea for it to be reduced?

Noooo... If you were pulled over, you have to pay before the court date. Otherwise they'll issue an arrest warrant due to failure to appear in court which in itself incurs another fine of R400 (or used to be years ago). I suggest you call the magistrate court and ask them how to pay the fine.

For all provinces except for Gauteng, a fine you receive in the mail is just a notice whereas a fine you receive when being pulled over is a summons.
just my luck, i've been phoning all the traffic department numbers that i could fine and each one just gives me another number until the last 2 places gave me numbers that nobody picks up.

I will try the little area's magistrates court number again a little later as no one is picking up the phone there either.
