That is exactly why I'm super cautious about any PC game, well most of them, 99% of the time (there are always a few exceptions). They made us a bit complacent (I'm understating here) about what we should expect every time a big AAA title drops on the PC platform (not R* in particular; but most of the big publishers).
This is my current AAA PC title purchasing process:
Is it part of a franchise that I've had previous seamless experiences with on PC? If so, I'll possibly buy at launch, and even then, depending on whether or not it's being developed by the same people, I may wait to see how it's received in general (in terms of its state as a working, fully functional game). Otherwise, I will wait for the launch madness to blow over. That way I'll always be able to avoid the teething problems (in some cases, an understatement, and in others an exaggeration) that seem to be the norm with PC gaming (I sometimes feel like a beta tester)... I'll avoid mentioning my launch struggles with Far Cry 3 or BF4 (let alone my current war with the game and bloody Origin
).
I guess sometimes you get hype trains that smash into you with so much momentum that you don't realize what has happened until it's too late, when you've already pressed the pre-order button, and you're drenched in sweat wondering what just happened...
P.S. I'll probably get GTA V since I've been wanting the game on PC for ages.
