It amazes me how hung up people still are over the GTA IV port from seven years ago... Since then when we had Rockstar make a PC version (Max Payne 3) they did a superb job. We really need to get over GTA IV already.

Thought you could hide in this thread, did you? DENIED! I still say that you need to be careful with PC-anything with a Rockstar stamp on it. Learn from past experiences or get burnt twice. I know what I'm going to do. You keep comparing a relatively small game like Max Payne 3 to a huge and complex game like GTA. Stop that.
My ignore list: growing too fast to keep updating.

    Hide? Who? What?

I can't remember the last PC came that came out and didn't have all manner of issues (even PC exclusives), par for the course I guess. I will agree that comparing an open world game with a linear one is erroneous.

I still have hope that this port will at least be semi decent, given how close the new console architectures are to PC now. Just trying to be an optimist I guess...

Dude, I agree 100% with you. I guess I'm just pessimistic because I was an early adopter for GTA 4 on PC and bliksem, did that ever annoy the heck out of me. I remember at the time I had a very strong PC and I couldn't even run the thing on Medium settings.

But, we should all try to be a little more positive after all, it's at least coming out on PC which is great news indeed!

I was actually thinking the "no PC" stance would last and we'd rather get news on a new Red Dead Redemption game....hmmm....

I also got GTA IV day one, it took what over a year for them to patch it to a decent state? I felt the burn too man. I however had faith it would definitely come to PC, now I'm faithful it will actually be decent on PC.

Glad to see we are actually on the same page, just coming at it from two perspectives.

I have to decide whether or not to get it on a next-gen console or on my PC. The modding capabilities on PC make it very attractive though. Either way, I'm definitely picking up a next-gen copy of this. I loved it on my XBOX360.

That is exactly why I'm super cautious about any PC game, well most of them, 99% of the time (there are always a few exceptions). They made us a bit complacent (I'm understating here) about what we should expect every time a big AAA title drops on the PC platform (not R* in particular; but most of the big publishers).

This is my current AAA PC title purchasing process:

Is it part of a franchise that I've had previous seamless experiences with on PC? If so, I'll possibly buy at launch, and even then, depending on whether or not it's being developed by the same people, I may wait to see how it's received in general (in terms of its state as a working, fully functional game). Otherwise, I will wait for the launch madness to blow over. That way I'll always be able to avoid the teething problems (in some cases, an understatement, and in others an exaggeration) that seem to be the norm with PC gaming (I sometimes feel like a beta tester)... I'll avoid mentioning my launch struggles with Far Cry 3 or BF4 (let alone my current war with the game and bloody Origin).

I guess sometimes you get hype trains that smash into you with so much momentum that you don't realize what has happened until it's too late, when you've already pressed the pre-order button, and you're drenched in sweat wondering what just happened...

P.S. I'll probably get GTA V since I've been wanting the game on PC for ages.

GTA V release on next-gen is effectively going to kill off the x360 and ps3. It's the only reason people still play on those consoles!

So far I have been lucky with no game coming on PC and giving issues (fingers crossed for future). Except bf server issues which affected every platform.

Not sure I agree with that, but wolfenstein was great, might and magic X, divinity commander etc... all seemed fine in general.

As I said previously, GTA 4 was not ported by Rockstar North. So I hope they port number 5 (like Max Payne 3).
