Throughput is not exactly what gamers should be looking at though.

For local gaming I've found IS based accounts to be best. Intl gaming - I"ll leave that to the WoW crowd.

I'm lucky to be on a 10Mbps fibre line at the moment... 5ms local latency, 10.2Mbps download 9.8Mbps upload. Waiting for ISP to offer faster line speeds on the package I signed up for.

    I also want

Sitting with a congested telkom exchange, latency is awesome during the day, until around 18:00ish it starts to jump and average around 100ms. Can still play my local games without lag, but it doesn't feel 'right'

Luckily, I have none of those issues. The contention ratio on our fibre is very low (seeing as about 10 people in the estate are on it), so I get a full 1.2 megaBYTES download speed pretty much always. Guild Wars 2 is also a dream to play on such low latency, averaging about 170ms to international servers (used to be 190ms at best on ADSL).

Exactly, I've mentioned this before in other threads. Latency is the issue, not whether you line can do 5mb/s. You can still download at 5mb/s but have a latency of over a 1 second. High download speeds are important for volume of the data not for how long it takes for a server to respond.
