Developer Other Ocean announced today that it's creating Sharknado: The Video Game, based off Syfy's upcoming Sharknado 2: The Second One. Majesco Entertainment is publishing the iOS title, which is an endless runner.
Sharknado: The Video Game is set in New York City, with players controlling Fin to tackle shark-infested tornadoes. Fin will have a broadsword at his side as he jumps off the backs of tiger sharks to reach his goal.
“When Majesco approached us about making a Sharknado game, we said ‘yes’ before they’d even finished asking,” said Other Ocean designer Frank Cifaldi. “The game we came up with is very much in the spirit of the films: ridiculous, overblown, yet oddly sincere. We can’t wait for fans to sink their teeth into it.”
Syfy seems set on expanding the Sharknado brand. Not only is an iOS game based off the movie franchise coming soon, but Sharknado merchandise is heading to 1,000 retail outlets.
Sharknado: The Video Game is planned to launch this summer, presumably around the July 30 premiere for Sharknado 2. The schlockfest sequel stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, Vivica A. Fox, Andy Dick, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
