I just gave you multiple examples of online shooters that compensate for high latency. I asked about Phantoms because I wanted to know if it also compensates for high latency.

BF4 is not the only online shooter in the world, mate. Different games handle their netcode in different ways. BF4 has notoriously bad netcode.

And I gave my opinion on it...I found it terrible and frustrating playing on EU servers.

Also playing this at the moment, finding it quite fun. My favorite type of shooter is always somewhat unrealistic, you know, people living through headshots and ability to use "gadgets" to turn the favor. Kinda like Team Fortress 2, although it's getting a bit outdated for my tastes. Ultra Real online shooters is quite frustrating with our latency for me.

Anyhow, Phantoms is what i'd say a blend between realistic and "arcade" (quake/unreal tournament). Which i like.

The 3rd person view is still a bit jarring, but the advantage is, you can see around corners and over obstacles without actually putting your head out (and you can see much better where everyone is, including your own team) . I am enjoying the "cover" system, pretty much Mass Effect style, it works quite well for my play style and certainly assists with being able to shoot from cover (i.e. popping up from a window or from the side of a door to shoot at enemies as opposed to moving your entire body into view). Cover+3rd Person also implies you can see the sniper without being one-shotted for popping your head out, i actually think snipers is at a bit of a disadvantage in this game if you know what you're doing.

They got this whole "Device" thing , it makes a huge difference. Recons getting that sensor that highlights/tags all enemies in a 50m radius for your entire team to see (amusingly recons have to pick between the sensor or cloak , and you can see how teams start losing when recons are rather selfish and all come in with cloak devices).

I personally enjoy the Assault class the most, primarily because you can put on armor and literally be a tank (and take alot of shots, trust me with our latency this is a big deal) . I love that shield-stampede device they got (you literally put up this massive shield, rush straight into enemy fire and if you manage to hit anyone while the shield is up they are knocked on their arses and stunned). I've taken out an entire team that was all 4-5 of them camping behind the same barrier with this thing.

Things like grenades and explosives are very limited in this game (well so far anyway), i'm not sure how many grenades you can eventually carry, but at this stage i can only carry 2 grenades. I've also not seen any rocket launcher type of weapons, it's all basically Assault Rifles / Sniper rifles / Shotguns / SubMachine Guns / Pistols ...so i guess that is the more realistic part , it's quite rare to be randomly blown up by explosions like you'd find in Battlefield. If someone is throwing a grenade it is very much used to take out a clumped up group or getting someone out of cover.

I know alot of CoD/Battlefield fans probably hate this feature, but kill-cam , another big deal, it totally prevents camping. If you play some sort of sniper, you have to move after each kill.

I think the biggest criticism of this game at this point is, it is very much "Pay2Win" , although i've not spent a single penny on this game, i can see things that i could have bought to buff myself up, a better gun or more armor etc. I definitely encountered enemies that was so jacked up that emptying my entire sub-machine gun into them did not kill them. Everyone got a health-bar like in MMOs, so you can see people got alot of health and got armor negating alot of the damage etc. <---- this is why this game is actually VERY forgiving if you are playing on a 200ms latency

As for the amount of activity, so far haven't had trouble finding matches, it takes about 2 minutes to get into a match the first time, but from then on, if you remain with that team , you'll be playing nonstop. Maps are somewhat limited in the beginning, but seems to open up at about lvl 7 or 8.

I could buy most of my improvements purely with currency i received in the game (from doing matches) , and most items are locked until i reach a certain level anyway. I am sure , while you can probably boost yourself in the beginning, in the end the difference between top tier bought items and naturally obtained items will be relative minor (at least from what i could see in the store, nothing was outrageously better) .

Either way, the game is freaking free! It might not last as long as TF2, but what do you have to lose?

    I fully agree with Diabolus.

The game is EXTREMELY fun for me. If I had to take a rough guess, it uses client side hit detection (like BF4) so playing on EU servers with a 200ms+ latency is more than playable. I've been playing as Assault (also my favourite) but tonight decided I want to level my Recon class. Goodness me, I think the Recon class might become my new personal favourite, seeing that I've whipped ass tonight. It's almost too easy with the Recon class somehow compared to Assault for me. I personally love the 3rd person perspective. The ability to "hug" against walls, doing military rolls and sliding after sprinting is an absolute WIN for me and makes the game worth playing for me in the first place.

Like Diabolus said, you earn so much cash in game, that you can practically buy and unlock everything just from playing. You only require a Uplay account, but the game DOESN'T require you to login using the Uplay client, it has its own separate launcher if anyone wondered. I might just fork out some cash on the game too. I've also been invited to be in a clan, you can also create your own and play clan matches against others, with leaderboard rankings etc. The game also has squad / team voip so you can use your mic to communicate.

If anyone has their doubts about the game, I suggest you download it and play a bit. The hit registration might not be for everybody, but once you start playing and ranking up and unlocking gear, you'll soon get used to the latency and start having a good time. I played the game since the closed beta and believe it was good then and still is right now and can only get better as time progresses

PS: I've met quite a few South Africans playing the game in game already, I think the matchmaking system does take people from similar regions and match them up for the matches.

I've switched from Assault to Recon , i can now see why everyone is playing Recon . I think Ubi messed up the class balance or something, the ability for 1 single class to

    a] Cloak
b] Scan and reveal the entire enemy team to your entire team (ironically this also means the best defence against a cloaked Recon is another Recon!)
c] Ability to do a & b constantly , as in every 5 seconds (unlike all the other classes, recon devices do not have a "cooldown" .)
d] Sniper Rifles (on top of the usual SMG+pistol range of rifles)

I mean , i don't snipe or cloak as my latency for sniping is not there, but i run around with an SMG + Scanner and i'm sorry, that alone not only kicks latency issues to the curb (you see the enemy miles away) but gives your entire team an almost unfair advantage.

My assault can certainly take alot of shots , but as it is, i was just cannon fodder. The Support class' Aegis shield (it's a bubble (any team members can join you inside it), bullets bounce off the shield , i mean seriously?) is ten times more potent than anything assault brings to the table . Worst is, Assault's Blitz (the metal shield and charge thing) is vulnerable from above and behind (a sniper can still headshot you) . The ADS (heat wave thing) is useful but very circumstancial to use (and on a lengthy cooldown).

My go-to class has been support thus far. I love the LMG's with the huge mags and this is the first shooter game that my k/d is at 1.0+- and sometimes even more. I long to get enough GP to get the type 95 SD JGL, that thing is a beast!

I found assault a tad more difficult but love the APS gadget - cooked one or two opponents quite well. Recons are by far the worst class to play against... some of the snipers just have crazy skills and are so accurate - even with the smg's.

I enjoy it quite a lot, met some south africans also playing online, even got pulled into the l:B:l clan (bliksems).

Anybody want to play with hit me up-ingame OuBoet79

I played it for a little. I found its not the worse pay to win model I've come across, but its a little in your face for my liking. Didn't have any performance issues and didn't find latency to be a big problem. Overall Not bad, not amazing. I think I will play another few rounds to see how its changed since I last played.
