PC and Console gamers: let's just be friends

That's mostly because the PC and console versions are completely separate projects handled by different teams, afaik. In general I think sports games are better on console, but only for that fact. Other than that, I think PCs can do everything a console does and better at that too.

At the risk of being flamed, I'll keep gaming on PC for my serious gaming and later on I might get a console for my casual gaming. Like, use the PC for everyday gaming and the console for when I've got a few friends over and we want to play some games.

What I intend to do at some point is get a small PC in the living room (maybe something based on the AMD A1 platform, mini-ITX form factor etc) that I can use as an HTPC and for Steam streaming.
My reasoning is this: since I already have a gaming PC with a large library of games, choosing an extension to that architecture instead of buying a second gaming device would be a much cheaper option both hardware and game-wise.

The exclusives is an issue, granted. But I don't see myself buying a console just for those. But if I ever win one or get a load of money somewhere, I'll probably buy one.

I recall when they announced that FIFA 14 wouldn't be using the ignite engine on PC because the average PC gamer doesn't have the specs to justify it (paraphrasing). I just sat there gagging for a bit, thinking "these lying, motherf%@king snakes!"

Pardon the long post, but I think it is relevant to the thread.

Some of my fellow PC fanbois may be shocked to hear, but I've taken to recommending consoles to some people.
Wait, don't shoot yet! Give me a chance to explain.

I get a lot of people with basically no PC knowledge asking me "what make of computer" they should buy for their kid. I'm not a technician, by the way. I'm a systems analyst but if you "work with computers" you're an expert in all aspects of electronics. People have even brought me broken video machines and DVD players. But I digress...

When asked, the parents usually admit to thinking that the brand is an indication of how powerful the PC is. I then ask them what they want their kid to do with the computer. The answer is almost always the same. They want the kid to surf the net, do school projects and "maybe play a few games", said as an afterthought without realizing how drastically those "few games" will increase the cost of the hardware that need to run it at a playable framerate. If I ask for their budget I usually get an answer of "don't know" (meaning "as little as possible") or a number <= 5000.

I have made the mistake in the past to recommend a mid-range or entry-level gaming PC. Then the people got angry because the PC couldn't play the AAA games anymore after about 5 years.

So I recommend they get a bottom to mid range laptop for the kid's PC needs and a console for games. A small laptop + XBox is cheaper than a gaming PC and easier to maintain for the computer illiterate. I just feel if the kid had a real interest in PC hardware, he/she would have already had an idea what they wanted and would have guided their parents in the right direction instead of asking me about brands. This also cuts down on those late night phone calls, wanting me to quickly tell them over the phone why their computer isn't computing like it did before they deleted the Windows folder to free up space.

This, to me, is really a case of "to each, their own.

You'll always get either Console gamers or PC gamers (or both, like myself).

You can do more on a PC than a console, yes. I would think a console's main purpose is to (and always will be, IMO) a "gaming station".

Regarding "which is better" -- tough to say. Each has its own unique pros and cons. I am not biassed towards or against platform (as mentioned here within).

Be a console gamer. Be a PC gamer.

That's my view also, if you're a casual gamer then off to console for you. Not that I'm saying consoles are for casuals but things like better graphics, high fps, 1080p and so on matter less when you buy 2 games a year and play once a month.

Hogwash and Bollox! I am a hardcore diehard gaming veteran! I have been playing games since I was a kid on my dad's ancient 286! And from the beginning of was always a multi-platformer.

I have basically had every generation of pc chip from 286 to 486 to Pentium to AMD to current i5. Also had ps1,ps2,psp, ps3, ps vita, Sega game gear, mega drive, China games, xbox 360, Wii and wii u. What I'm trying to say is, I spent all my money on gaming and I'm broke now and I need a loan
