Default Most Africans will never trust whites: survey

Levels of xenophobia and intolerance of foreigners is increasing in Gauteng, a survey released on Thursday found.

"Thirty-five percent of all respondents said [we should] send all foreigners home now," Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) executive director Professor David Everatt [SUBS: CORRECT] said.

"Xenophobia is on the rise, especially in Tshwane. Tshwane has actually done well in terms of service delivery."

    "Most"? O_o

Unless the threshold is based on the standard grade pass requirement, I wouldn't say 35% of respondents is "most"

That's just the first paragraph of the article. 35% of respondents want foreigners out of the country and 73% will never trust whites.

    Probably not today.

Most of the respondents were probably rural folk.

Ahh... didn't catch the link in the article.

27k odd people doesn't represent the majority... does it?
Feels like more selective statistics for political reasons hmmm

For a survey, 27k is huge but by no means definitive. The education levels, income, social situation (as bradbear said, is it mostly rural or city folks?) all play a part, of course. If I think about the African people I know well enough to be able to guess what they would answer, I think about 90% would say trustworthiness depends on the specific person in question and not their skin colour. That said, the African people I know are mostly rural Freestaters with matric or better education that fits neatly into the middle to higher income and social classes. They are also much fewer than 27k so it doesn't really count for much.

The last 6 generations in my family were born in Africa. I am white and I consider myself African... I do not understand the human need to classify race.

I guess the reverse is also very true?
