But that's kinda my point. It's not that the Gibson (or Fender, or anything else) is overrated, it just doesn't suit
you. Analogously, of course, I was referring to gaming platforms, but... oh, stuff it. That's the most boring conversation ever anyway.
ESPs are quite rad, although I'm definitely a Jackson / Ibanez slut since I'm really into my metal and that hot, sharp superstrat tone. I've also always been quite partial to the BC Rich Warlock.
I basically learned to play guitar by jamming along to my Iron Maiden casettes (heh). I guess I could play the solos if I bothered learning them. I mean, I have most of the technical expertise, I suppose, but I just don't have the motivation to sit and work out the solos note for note. :P The only Maiden song I know I can play from start to finish is Wasting Love, but that's an easy one. I can also remember most of the solo from Can I Play With Madness offhand.
Having said that, I've always thought Dave Murray is a pretty phenomenal guitarist. He's definitely the harder to replicate over Adrian Smith and Janick Gers, because he's got a very classically-influenced legato style. I guess my own style is probably more like Gers's - kinda dirty and rock 'n' roll. I've played in quite a few bands over the years, and when I've done solo duty, it tends to be short, noisy, fast, and full of pinch harmonics.
I own an old Squier Stratocaster (custom-fitted with a DiMarzio humbucker on the bridge side), an Epiphone SG, and an Ibanez RG. Since I'm a lefty, I can't get all those cool shaped axes.
I'm seriously considering buying myself a Jackson Dinky next, in porno 80s white.
