Thread: GTX280 overheating

    Default GTX280 overheating

Hi ther my GPU is overheating. sometimes it can go up to 90C play a game and something like 56 on idle. I alredy got my fan speed on 100%

    Here's my setup

    Q9450 oc to 3.2GHz Zalman CNPS9700
    MSI Geforce GTX280 OC edition
    4GB DDRII 800MHz ram
    4 HDD
Cooler master CM690 with all the fans
    MSI P45 Platinum motherboard

I was thinking of getting the Arctic cooling or Thermaltake solution but they both have heat issues with the memory on that Graphics card. I don't have the money to get a new card. I already opened a ticked with MSI and you know how the manufacturers are with support. i only got 1 - 2 months left on warranty

Dude, 50-60 is Normal for a GTX280 on idle. as is 90c when on full load. I know this cause my GTX260 runs 55-60 on idle, and even on 100% fanspeed under load Frequently gets upto 85c, and I have lekker cooling, well setup in my case.

    dont believe me

In idle you can expect a temperature of 50-55 Degrees C. Pretty normal. Yet once we push the GPU to 100%, the temperatures take a pretty hefty toll and settle at 85 Degrees C, that's 185 degrees F

    Another forum.......

280GTX gpu ambient temps sit @ ~55-60 degrees ~88-95 loaded

The only time to start worrying about GPU temps, is if your card starts displaying artifacts randomly in ALL games, or just displays a blank screen and reboots your pc after prolongued use.
I know those high figures seem worrying, but they aren't.

ok. anyone else wants to verify what maplassie said. On NVIDIA site thye said 105C is max and 90c is close to that

I decided to set my GPu to run at stick clocks when I'm playing games. Do you guys think this cooler will be good enough for my GPU and memory on my GTX 280

I'm only worried about the memory cooling as the arctic cooling cooler fails to cool the memory of the gtx280.

GTX 280's do run hot... but over 90 degrees does seem high especially with fan speed set to max.

At one point I had an issue with the stock cooler not being mounted 100% correctly. This was solved by just remounting and putting on some decent thermal paste.

ok but are you talking about the Arctic cooler. cause that seems to have problems with VRM temps!!!!

With my next card I'm going to get a card with custom cooling

ok cool will try it. Where can I get hold of the thermal paste. Just one question is the stock cooler aluminium or copper?
